RenewQuote is a free quote-matching service for UK homeowners. You submit your home details once, and we match you with MCS-certified solar installers covering your area. You compare quotes side by side and pick the one that fits, or none of them.
The site exists because getting a straight answer on UK solar costs is harder than it should be. Most installer websites publish glossy brochures, not prices. Most comparison sites recycle the same generic content. The VAT rules change. The export tariffs change. The technology changes. You are left ringing five installers, repeating your details five times, and trying to compare quotes that use different system sizes and different assumptions.
This site is built to fix that. One form. MCS-certified installers only. Straight numbers, referenced to gov.uk, Ofgem, MCS and Energy Saving Trust sources you can check yourself.
Who runs this site
My name is Neil Russell. I built RenewQuote and I write or oversee everything published on it.
My background is B2B digital marketing and lead generation. I have spent the last several years running paid acquisition, SEO and outreach campaigns for service businesses, including in the home-improvement and energy-services space. That work meant getting close to how homeowners actually shop for trades: what they search, where they hesitate, which quotes feel trustworthy, which ones don't. It also meant getting close to the installers: how they price, how they qualify leads, where most "comparison" sites waste their time.
I also built and run Solar Quotes Ireland, the Irish equivalent of this site, on the same principles. RenewQuote is the version of a comparison site I kept wishing existed when I was researching these markets: one that takes a homeowner's time seriously, refuses to publish generic copy, and only puts certified installers in front of you.

Why you can trust what's published here
Editorial standards we apply to every page:
- MCS-certified installers only. MCS certification (mcscertified.com) is the standard the whole UK support system is built on: Smart Export Guarantee suppliers ask for the MCS certificate, and grant schemes require MCS installers. Installers must also belong to a consumer code such as RECC or HIES.
- Sources cited by name and link. VAT treatment, export tariffs, grant scheme rules and permitted development limits are sourced from gov.uk, ofgem.gov.uk, mcscertified.com and energysavingtrust.org.uk. If a claim is not sourced, it does not ship.
- Numbers first, no hype. A well-oriented UK roof generates roughly 800 to 900 kWh per kWp per year. Payback on a typical system is realistically 9 to 12 years with export payments. We say that plainly. We do not write "transform your home" copy because it does not help you make a decision.
- Dated publication and update timestamps. Every guide shows when it was first published and when it was last meaningfully edited. If a scheme rule or VAT rate changes, the affected pages are updated and the date moves.
- Fact-check gate before any page goes live. Every page passes a structured fact-check against live gov.uk, Ofgem, MCS and Energy Saving Trust pages before it is published. Anything that fails is held until it is sourced or rewritten.
How we make money
Honest answer: RenewQuote is free for you. Installers pay us when we introduce them to a qualified quote request from a homeowner in their service area. You never pay anything to use this site, and we never charge you for the quotes.
A few things this model means in practice, worth being upfront about:
- We only make money when an installer wants the lead. That gives us a direct incentive to publish accurate cost ranges and realistic payback figures, so the homeowners we send through are well-informed and worth quoting for.
- We do not sell your details to anyone other than the installers matched to your enquiry. We do not pass them to general marketing databases or third-party advertisers. The full data-handling rules are in our privacy policy.
- Installer payments are flat-fee per qualified lead, not commission-based on the quoted system size. We have no incentive to push you toward a larger system than your home actually needs.
- We do not run paid placement. Installers are matched on coverage of your postcode and certification status, not on who pays the most.
