This notice explains what personal data RenewQuote collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have over it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are
RenewQuote (the site at renewquote.com) is a free solar quote comparison service for UK homeowners. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice.
If you need to contact us about your data, email hello@renewquote.com.
2. What data we collect
When you request quotes through the site, we collect the information needed to match you with installers:
- Identity data: your name.
- Contact data: email address and phone number.
- Location data: the postcode of the property you want quoted.
- Property data: property type and roof type.
- Project data: whether you are interested in solar panels alone or solar with battery storage, your installation timeline, and any notes you add to the form.
Quote requests are submitted through a form processed by Netlify, our website hosting and form-handling provider.
We also collect technical data automatically when you visit the site:
- Device and browser type, operating system, screen size.
- Page activity: pages visited, time on page, referring site. This is collected through Google Analytics 4.
3. Why we collect it, and the legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis under UK GDPR Article 6 |
|---|---|
| Matching you with MCS-certified installers covering your postcode and passing your quote request to them. | Article 6(1)(b): performance of a contract you have requested (the quote-matching service). |
| Following up with you to confirm we received your enquiry. | Article 6(1)(b): performance of contract. |
| Improving the site (analytics, page performance, fixing errors). | Article 6(1)(f): our legitimate interest in running an accurate, working comparison service. |
| Complying with legal obligations (tax, accounting, regulatory requests). | Article 6(1)(c): legal obligation. |
4. Who we share it with
When we match your quote request, we share it only with the MCS-certified installers selected to quote for your job. They are the only third parties who receive the property and project details you submit.
We do not sell your data to general marketing databases, third-party advertisers, or list brokers.
We use a small number of standard service providers as data processors who handle data on our behalf:
- Website hosting and form processing (Netlify).
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4).
- Email delivery for confirmations and follow-ups.
We may also disclose data where required by law, by a court order, or to defend our legal rights.
5. International transfers
Some of our service providers (notably hosting, form processing and analytics) may transfer data outside the UK, including to the United States. Where this happens, transfers are protected by UK adequacy regulations, the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. How long we keep it
- Quote-request data: retained for 24 months from submission, so we can resolve any disputes about an introduction and installers can follow up within a normal sales cycle.
- Analytics data: retained for 14 months in Google Analytics 4, then auto-deleted.
- Accounting and tax records: retained for 6 years, as required by UK tax law.
7. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights over the personal data we hold about you:
- Right of access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure: ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to restriction of processing: ask us to pause processing while a dispute is resolved.
- Right to data portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object: object to processing based on legitimate interests, including any direct marketing.
- Right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or via their helpline on 0303 123 1113.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@renewquote.com. We respond within one month, as required by UK GDPR Article 12.
8. Cookies and tracking
- Strictly necessary cookies: required for the site to work (form submission, session state).
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4, used to see which pages perform and where visitors come from.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers (no Meta Pixel, no ad remarketing, no programmatic ad networks). If that changes, this notice will be updated before any new tracker is deployed.
9. Children
This site is intended for property owners and occupiers aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has submitted personal data to us, contact hello@renewquote.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use HTTPS across the site, access controls on all systems that handle personal data, and we keep software patched. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protective steps a reasonable operator would expect.
11. Changes to this notice
We review this notice at least once a year and whenever there is a material change to how we handle data. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent meaningful change.
